A Guide to the Milkwood Community

School Tours

Milkwood Steiner School offers a number of school tours each term. This is a good opportunity to learn more about how our school works and observe how the teachers and students interact with one another.

Open Day

Join us as we open our doors and showcase our school and the children’s inspiring work. Classrooms will be open and teachers will be available talk to and answer any questions you may have. There will also be musical performances, a book stall, craft activities, a craft and toy stall, a barbeque, cakes and refreshments.

Café

Each term Milkwood holds a café day in the school gardens. This is a wonderful opportunity to join in a relaxing afternoon with tea, coffee and homemade treats.

Craft Group

The craft group meets on Friday mornings during the school term. Many Steiner inspired crafts can be learned in a friendly and relaxing environment. Items made by the craft group are showcased on our annual Open Day, and also in the schools craft cabinet where parents and friends can purchase wonderful handmade treasures. All are welcome and prior experience in craft is not necessary.

Teddy Bears Picnic & Sea Breeze Festival

Each year Milkwood takes part in these two popular events in Darwin. Come and visit our stall where children can play, and take part in activities. This is also a good opportunity to talk to parents within the school and ask any questions you may have.

Bush Dance

Come along for a toe tapping good time. Each year Milkwood community hosts a Bush Dance. Great live music with a caller, delicious food and a great night for young and old.

Steiner Inspired Playgroups

Steiner playgroups are conducted in a nurturing and joyous environment for families who are looking for a wholesome and quality space for themselves and their children. There are three playgroups to choose from:

Nature’s Children (Driver) is held on Wednesday mornings and caters for pre-birth to 2 years.

Honeyeater (Virginia) is held on Tuesday mornings and caters for children aged 2 and older.

Fairywrens (Driver) is held on Thursday mornings and caters for children aged 2 and older.

Quarterly Newsletter

At the end of each term Friends of Milkwood produce a newsletter which showcases the Milkwood School Community, what we have achieved during the term, fun activities and upcoming events. The Quarterly is distributed to all parents and to the wider community and gives families a chance to communicate stories, experiences, advertise etc. Free subscriptions are available from the office.
