Language Program

Indigenous languages are explored through rich teaching and learning experiences, facilitated by Traditional Owners. Children engage with Larrakia vocabulary and narratives as part of their classroom learning, and work deeply with other Indigenous languages through our specialist programs. The emphasis of this learning is deep, authentic relationships with Traditional Owners.

Milkwood Steiner school holds weekly Indonesian language classes for students in Classes 2-7, in partnership with the Darwin Languages Centre (DLC). Music, games, cooking, sports, storytelling, puppetry, role-playing and many other Indonesian cultural practices are embedded into this class. DLC provides the following tips for engaging your child’s Indonesian language learning at home: https://ntschools-dedlcl.libguides.com/ld.php?content_id=50398393

Class teachers also offer language studies drawing on the richness of our multicultural college of teachers, and all Steiner Teachers embed languages other than English in their morning circle and other daily rhythms.
